With
over half of all the forestland in the continental United
States privately owned, private landowners can have a major
impact on the future of our nation’s forestland. There
are 10 million private, non-industrial woodland owners in
the United States—owners with a keen interest in the
rewards their forests offer for recreation and enjoyment.
Some of them are farmers; others simply own the forestland.
Many of them are already working together to manage, protect
and sustain this valuable woodland resource.
The forestry
co-ops, nonprofits, and landowner associations working
with WoodWorks are a testament to the idea that widespread
environmentally-responsible woodland management is attainable.
